About the lab
The Coordenação de Pesquisa Aplicada e Desenvolvimento Tecnológico (Coordination of Applied Research and Technological Development - COPDT) of the Instituto Nacional de Pesquisas Espaciais (National Institute for Space Research - INPE) is the pioneering coordination in carrying out research and development in artificial intelligence (AI) for INPE’s projects. The Laboratório de Inteligência ARtificial para Aplicações AeroEspaciais e Ambientais (Artificial Intelligence Laboratory for Aerospace and Environmental Applications - LIAREA) was created in 2024 to consolidate COPDT's work in research and development in artificial intelligence applied to the environmental areas (remote sensing, weather and climate forecasting), space (astrophysics, space geophysics), and aerospace engineering. LIAREA has extensive support from INPE staff from various coordination areas, in addition to COPDT, master and PhD students from INPE postgraduate programs, undergraduate students, and also has external collaborators.
